Former Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Kedarbhakta Mathema has said that there is political interference in the university.

At the BP Literary Festival held at the Nepali Congress Central Office on Wednesday, Mathema said that political interference in the university has been at an extreme for some years.

"BP envisioned creativity and innovative education and education for all, non-interference and independent education institutions," Mathema said, "Currently, political interference in Nepal's universities is extreme."

He says that there is political participation and interference in the appointment of vice chancellors and officials. He said that the school was disturbed by political interference. "There is a need to reform the system of providing education only for passing the exam and getting a job," he said.

He said that BP envisages education based on equality, social justice, public, easy, equal opportunity and practicality.

He says that education is considered as a means for students to pass an educational level, as a means for parents to get employment, and as a means for society to be intellectual and socially friendly.

Politicians consider education as a tool to change society. BP was that politician", he said.Mathema said that there is more commercialization of education in South Asian countries, including Nepal, and parents spend up to 50 percent of their lifetime income for the education of their children in Nepal. "One of the reasons for corruption in Nepal is to invest more in education to raise resources," he said.
