Nepal's former Asiad bronze medalist boxer Deepak Maharjan has participated in the torch rally of the Hangzhou Asian Games.


The official opening of the Asian Games will be held this Saturday. Before the inauguration, Asiad torch rally was held in Hangzhou. The torch rally started on September 8 from West Lake, a famous place in Hangzhou. which was circulated in 11 cities of Zhejiang province. Boxer Deepak of Nepal got this opportunity on September 20, the last day of the torch rally.

The torch, which is a symbol of unity, was carried by the athletes of the countries participating in the Asian Games. Athletes from all countries had the opportunity to carry the torch for at least 100 meters.


Deepak is currently one of the coaches of the boxing team participating in the Hangzhou Asiad. He said that he was lucky to represent the country in the torch rally. He said, "This was a great opportunity for me." I felt fun and happy. I won a medal in China, I got a chance to carry the torch again in China. I felt proud when I was greeted by thousands of Chinese while carrying the torch.


Deepak won a bronze medal in boxing at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010. He was the only player from Nepal to win a medal in that Asiad.
