Linge Pings

Introduction

What is the ping in Dashain? A traditional swing built primarily in Nepal for the Dashain festival is called a Linge Ping. The name comes from the swing's shape, which resembles the Shiva Linga. It is said that in order to participate in the Dashain festival, one must ride the swing once a year and leave the ground.

A few years ago, there were a lot of linge pings visible on the hills and Plane space above the settlement as Dashain drew near. Many groups also used bamboo shoots and bamboo sticks to chop and make pings. It was customary in Ping for families, friends, and other village residents to get together and enjoy themselves. Ping evolved become a tool for reuniting with long-distance kin.

There was pinging in Danda and Chautara from the start of Dashain to the conclusion of Tihar. However, those squares and hills are now empty. The bhir babio is no longer used, and the reeds are currently being used since the ping was discontinued in the village. Nobody even cuts the rope when they walk to the jungle to retrieve the things.

There are no persons in the village with the necessary expertise to cut dough for ping. Locals claim that Dashain wouldn't be as joyful without Linge Ping, which is connected to the festival's uniqueness.

The local people explain about Linge Ping

67-year-old According to Rin Bahadur Thapa of Badigad Rural Municipality-4, the younger generation's acceptance of modern art culture has resulted in a decline in interest in manufacturing linge ping.

According to Thapa, leaving the land in the community is no longer permitted, despite the widespread assumption that it should be done once a year. Chhetri claims that since ping is now played at fairs using contemporary technology, interest in the classic game of linge ping has begun to wane.

Numerous young people congregate around a wooden swing during Nepal's Dashain festival, waiting for their turn to swing. One of the most significant Hindu holidays observed in Nepal is Dashain.

During festival season, the swing is a highly preferred means of entertainment in the area. Around the country, swings are created for celebration and amusement purposes in practically every region. Ping is the Nepali term for them. One week in advance of Ghatasthapana's day, a ping is sent. Only after Tihar is celebrated is it disassembled.

Thapa remembered that a week prior to Dashai, a group of people would assemble atop the hill overlooking the village, bury the bamboo linga, cut the babio, and distribute it. He expressed concern that this tradition is currently in jeopardy.

How to make traditional Linge Ping

"Those squares and hills where we used to play and have a good time are now empty because we are getting older. I'm going to plant Babbo's (Babiyo) grass, but we can't cut bamboo and bring it to make pings. Our grandfather used to tell us that we should leave the land once a year, so we're sticking to his advice.

He said, "With the passage of time and era, people's habits have also changed. If there is a festival, they play ping which is powered by modern technology, you can even see the ping. They used to play ping during Dashain, but now they don't even play ping.

There is no question of leaving the earth after not playing ping." Abandoned: whereas it was visible everywhere until five or six years ago, they are no longer able to be found."

According to Padam Bahadur KC, 71, of Galkotan Municipality-3, Ping tries to establish intimacy by getting together with long-distance friends and family. According to him, relatives who have been apart for a long time get together in the village during Dasain to share their joys and sorrows.

According to Padam Bahadur KC , the idea behind pinging is that the bond between the two people strengthens, much like when two pieces of material are tied together to form a sturdy stick.

Tanneri predicted that Taruni would become a dhaja after Tanneri pings her, and that they would eventually tie the knot. He claims that a common misconception is that a dhaja attached to a ping will improve the relationship.

"Dashain is here, but it's not as enjoyable without Ping. One village used to produce five or six Pings, but these days they only produce one, the man claimed.

According to KC, the hills and squares that were formerly used as pings have been rendered unsightly and destroyed by the recently built roads. According to him, traditional pings have vanished as a result of the creation of contemporary pings manufactured for the market.

Conclusion

It is said that swinging on the ping ray can alleviate negative emotions and rejuvenate swingers, although it is not advised for those who are afraid of heights. Pings of all kinds are also prepared. Some of the well-known pings manufactured in Nepal are Rote Ping, Linge Ping, etc.
